Big Girl Bed

28 May

We are a long way off from Isobel needing a Big Girl Bed but when I saw this beauty shining in the sun on a Saturday morning, I knew it was worth a second look. Anthony, kind man that is is, pulled over.

The woman holding the yardsale wasn’t messing around. She had tables full of lovely antiques, all over priced, so I was nervous to ask about the bed. If she was charging $60 for Carnival glass I could only imagine what she’d want for a brass bed. She came up to me when she saw I was using a pink vintage Samsonite carry-on bag for a purse. I sheepishly engaged in conversation about it while realizing she was justified in charging more to someone who knew the value of an antique. Note to self: don’t advertise your vintage savvy at yardsales.

Isobel’s little face must have softened her heart because when I asked about the bed she was willing to let it go for a hundred bucks. I was floored. She was going to put it in a consignment shop for three hundred dollars but she liked us. Or at least, she liked Isobel.

We wandered through the rest of the antiques a bit and told her we’d think about it. As I said, Isobel won’t need it for a couple years and we could always just use one of the (admittedly not very attractive) beds my family has in storage. We talked about it and talked about it and the next day we woke up early and went back and bought it.

Decorating Isobel’s bedroom is on my life list. Buying this bed was the first step.

AWESOME BED! It’ll be fun decorating the room around it, even if you have to wait a while!
