Snapshot

Here’s what I’ve been up to:

– I forgot to mention last week that Danforth featured my photo on his tumblr. He is hilarious and loves Star Trek. You should follow him, but only if you like things that are awesome.

– My twitter wife Shinyinfo made a pinterest board of all her favorite nerd-larious gifs and photos. It’s amazing. She has magical powers of seeking out all things geeky and combines that talent  with the cataloging prowess of a librarian. I like to think she made this board because my birthday is this weekend, but she was probably looking for a way to more effectively say this or possibly this to the world at large.

– I shot my very first wedding reception last weekend, and using a fancy expensive lens, too, instead of my regular kit lens. I love how the photos came out, but I was unprepared for how my back, neck, and shoulders would ache from lugging around that heavy lens. Using a new lens really inspired me, and besides that, I was able to put the camera down after awhile and enjoy the party. I ate a lot of Assyrian food and convinced the mother of the bride to give me all her secrets, er, recipes.  I’m not quite sure I’m up to dolma, but I’m pretty sure I can replicate at least a few recipes in my kitchen.

Some other fun things:

I’m not saying my mom loves me more than than yours loves you, but mine did save this for me for over ten years.

Isobel made soup.

The problem with banks.

Isobel kisses her reflection 1 and 2.

Swearing is very upsetting.

Two recent thrift store scores.

Beautiful picture of the centerpiece. I’m curious, what lens you were shooting with? What camera too? Sorry if I missed it on an older post – that’s the trouble with being new to a blog.

I haven’t commented on any of my equipment but I keep meaning to add something in the FAQ about it. I have a Canon Rebel xTi and normally shoot with the kit lens because I am broke. The couple whose wedding I shot are both photographers themselves so they lent me their 70-200 lens.

Great camera for the money and it’s always fun to shoot with new lenses. I know you’ve got a flickr account but have you heard of 500px? It’s where the best photography lives by amateur and professional photogs. There are both free and paid accounts. Just be careful, it’s easy to lose a few hours at 500px without realizing it.

OHMYBLOODYGOD how I miss Middle Eastern food! Michigan has had a large Arabic population since the turn of the last century when Lebanese immigrants first came to work in the auto industry and brought their insanely great food with them. Lots of Lebanese and Syrian joints all across the lower part of the state, and I had favorites that I totally loved but also totally took for granted, not actually realizing that other parts of the country don’t have multiple shawarma joints in every town of a reasonable size. My kingdom for a good, solid fattoush salad and serious homemade hummous made with the peeled chickpeas…don’t even get me started on their handling of lamb aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh and the breads! My god woman! The breads! Sigh.

That’s the magic of living where I live. 🙂

I mean seriously. Let me call your attention to these photos, from my old town, from a photographer that I don’t know…..Ya don’t see any sort of delivery carts remotely resembling this in rural NC. 😦

That is amazing. I’d be like, “Nooo! Don’t give me a ticket! Oh wait, you just have deliciousness for me.”
