Survey Says

22 Mar

I’d like to thank everyone who commented and left their input last week. It’s amazing to know that I have these wonderful relationships without ever meeting most of you in person. It means a lot to me. Here’s what I’m going to do.

FOLLOW FRIDAY

I’m afraid I may have given the wrong impression about Follow Friday. I am in no way thinking of changing it or getting rid of it, so don’t worry! I mostly just wanted to let everyone know why I’m not around on the Twitters so much. I check in several times a day during breaks so while I don’t get to keep up with everything, I do get in the occasional chat and still have plenty of time to find funny tweets.

LITTLE BIG LINKS

If you ever have a theme suggestion you’d like to toss my way, I’m all for it. I’ll probably update the FAQ to reflect that. In the meantime I have plenty of ideas, but I’m always happy to hear from you, so don’t hesitate to ask!

DAILY POSTS

A lot of people weighed in on this, mostly to say I shouldn’t work so hard if I don’t have to. This isn’t an issue I neither worry about nor really work hard on: weekends are for family time in my house and any post that goes up on the weekend was prepared in advance. I don’t do any writing or blog stuff on the weekends. This is part of the reason I like having Little Big Links on the weekends—it’s something that I create on an ongoing basis. Same with Flipbook, all the photos are edited and formatted in advance. All I do on the weekends is hit publish and tweet. In all honesty, I like about posting on the weekends because I have so many ideas. Sometimes I feel like 5 days is not enough.  But this question, and the answers that followed, got me thinking about changing a few things.

BLOGROLL

I’ve decided I am going to update my blogroll after all. However, at this point it’s a low priority. It will get done… eventually.

FAQ

I’m going to update the FAQ with information about Little Big Links, cameras and photography, and a few other things. Mollie Kate asked if I could update it about how I became a librarian, but I think I’ll write that up as a post instead of addressing it in the FAQ.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE

I need to get on this. Thanks for the encouragement and support!

TO SUM UP…

Again, I can’t tell you how valuable this was for me. I’ve been taking an ecourse and it’s been churning all sorts of ideas around in my head.  I’m definitely going to incorporate the things you said you wanted more of (thrift scores, design-ish things, babies, food, etc) and fortunately these are all things I plan to write about anyway. This just affirms I’m on the right track.

I’m still contemplating making changes in the future but right now I’m happy with what I’m doing. Ultimately, what all this soul searching and decision making comes down to is this: I really enjoy posting here, and my goal is to keep enjoying it. I only hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Site Statistics

26 Aug

I think most people who have a blog have done at least one post about the phrases that people have searched for that led them to your blog. It’s easy to see why: a most bizarre side of human nature is revealed on your site statistics page. It’s sort of rare insight into oddities of the human mind; an inadvertent overshare.

Site statistics is very useful for letting you know which posts your readers respond to, and which ones attract the pervs. Probably my #1 perv-attracting post would have to be I’m tired of these mother fucking bees in this mother fucking house. Mostly because I drop the F-bomb twice in the title, but also because there is a percentage of humanity that is attracted to bee pr0n.  Really.

Pervy hits include:

Bee fucking

Mother insect fuck

Insect fucking

My god. Is this a Thing I’m not aware of? Never mind–don’t answer that.

I prefer to remain unaware.

Some of the search terms I find depress me, frankly. Someone found my blog by searching for “im tired of cats”?! Really? YOU ARE DEAD TO ME YOU IGNOBLE HUMAN BEING! HOW DARE YOU!

Also, you’ve so come to the wrong place.

Along with the pervy hits my bee post has brought me many visitors who I deeply sympathize with. In fact just reading their search phrases make me a bit anxious for them.

They have searched for terms including:

Multiple bees and wasps in my house daily

how to kill those fucking bees

multiple mud daubers coming inside my house

no more wasps inside

please help with wasps

If anyone reading this post now has found my blog by searching for bee help, then all the sympathy in the world to you, my friend. You have far greater problems than I. Vaya con dios.

I get a lot of people coming here looking for meal planning advice so I’m planning  some more menu planning and recipe posts soon. My iPhone app roundup posts are also frequently searched for so I’m going to do more of those, too.

Finally I’d like to give a shout out to people who found me in the most unlikely of ways: by searching for Eva Mendes. I have no idea how you found me, dear readers, but here you are. And you have no one to blame but yourself.

Not Eva Mendes
