Still Pissed At Yahoo

22 Dec

You know how when you complain about something on Twitter, and then the company you’ve railed against replies?

Here’s a summary of my morning:

And afterward:

I have not taken well to the threat of Delicious closing up shop. I’m pissed at Yahoo and I directed this rage at Pinboard. I clearly didn’t read the pricing matrix for Pinboard. I thought they were trying to capitalize on the masses of users fleeing Delicious.   I’m not sure if I’m going to go with Pinboard quite yet, as I’ve heard good things about some other companies out there, but the security of knowing your bookmarks are safe has me thinking. I rely on my bookmarks at work, at home, and on my phone. Information is my currency, and it is my vocation. I really don’t see anything wrong with charging a fee if I find the service valuable. I’m just not sure what I’m going to do yet.

I owe Pinboard an apology for flying off the handle.

Yahoo can still go fuck its mom, though.

The Overshare Eight

22 Sep

The awesome Sarah Blackstock tagged me to answer these eight questions, and since it’s #oversharewednesday, I shall oblige!

I get to tag someone and I chose YOU,  Megan Boley! The only catch is, Megan, I hope you share your answers on an #oversharewednesday.

If you could have any superpower, what would you have? Why?
I’d love to have the power of suggestion of the Jedi mind trick, though I’d abuse the hell out of it. Hey, I think you want to shelve all my library books right now, don’t you? Get on it! You can start with Reference.

Who is your style icon?

I actually don’t have one. I am on the hunt for one, though, so if anyone has any suggestions, I’d love to hear them. I’m fond of the librarian look but my day-to-day icon needs to be something more casual. I’m not inspired by the 80s which are reincarnated unironically all over the middle school campus I where I work, so fashion these days makes me feel old. So I guess my style icon is Betty White? But I’m still shopping around.

What is your favorite quote?
Pretty much everything from my Follow Friday posts. I don’t have to look beyond my friends to find quotes to live by.

What is the best compliment you’ve ever received?
Nic Piper once described me as a plucky, indispensible librarian with floaty hair. I don’t think anything tops that, really. Although there have been lots of times when people who just met me thought I was from somewhere other than my hometown. I said, “Bless you, random stranger!” and hugged them with tears in my eyes.

What playlist/cd is in your CD player/iPod right now?
I’m embarrassed to admit that I accidentally broke my iphone… again… so I just got a new one thanks to the Apple Care warranty (which I highly recommend). For those of you keeping track, this is my fourth iphone. I KNOW. Thank god I haven’t broken my BABY. I don’t have a warranty plan for her. Since I’m still trying to get this phone established I have zero songs on it at the moment. I need to get that.

Are you a night owl or a morning person?
I used to stay up late on a regular basis but then I had a baby. I’m now up at 6:00 am no matter what time I go to bed, so I’m falling asleep earlier and earlier. My emphasis is less on “when are you awake?” and focus most importantly on “when can I have some sleep?” Sleep is the Precious. We loves it.

Do you prefer dogs or cats?
Cats, duh. Did you know they can poop in a box, all on their own? And they don’t bark! My Mom is The Cat Whisperer so I grew up with her uncanny understanding them and don’t easily get offended. Don’t get me wrong, I love dogs, I just don’t think I could ever have one. Cats look after themselves, and I like that.

What is the meaning behind your blog name?

My philosophy is to emphasize the importance of the little things in life—to make the little things BIG, as in, important.

My Memes, Let Me Show You Them

28 Jun

It’s no secret that I love Twitter. I lurve it, okay. Some people roll their eyes (I’M LOOKING AT YOU, HUSBAND) when I talk about Twitter but I have met so many wonderful, fascinating people there. They enrich me daily, 140 characters at a time.

MY LIFE ROCKS

For example, take @shinyinfo. You probably remember her from such Follow Fridays as, well, all of them. She’s my secret girl crush. I wished we lived next door so she could come over for MST3K and Mountain Dew. She started a very important (to me) meme on Twitter that I think should be a Thing.

Please note, the humble hashtag. The hashtag lets you mark a tweet to be seen by others looking for the word in that hashtag. One of her more awesome hashtags was #trainboner, but that’s not what we’re here to discuss today (though by all means, don’t let that stop you).

Basically, the hashtags in question are #exciting and #myliferocks. Basically whenever you tweet some mundane aspect of your day, you should most definitely add those hashtags so that everyone out there can be jealous of your rockstar life. Oh yeah! Our most recent #exciting tweets have been about HotPockets. Oh yeah! #myliferocks. #jealous?!

OVERSHARE WEDNESDAY

The second Meme I’d like to introduce you to is  Overshare Wednesday. This was invented by my awesome friend @LaurelKS, also a Follow Friday regular. One day she facetiously said, Hey! Let’s Tweet Stuff People Don’t Want to Know! as a sarcastic joke. Twitter is MADE for Oversharing! So I thought, let’s actually have an Overshare Wednesday! I started tweeting slightly embarrassing things on Wednesday and giving it the #oversharewednesday hashtag. I encouraged my friends to do the same. We never explained it, we just did it. And look what happened! People I don’t even know are participating. I think they think it is a Thing. Which is is. Now. Yeeeeah! Take this person, for example:

@zombiesitcom I’m gonna take the biggest shit in the world when I get home. #overshareWednesday

Who the hell is that person? I have no idea! No connection, whatsoever! They are just some dude, participating in the meme. Participating in Awesomeness.

I highly encourage you to participate both in the #myliferocks and #oversharewednesday campaign. You are what makes Twitter awesome for people like me. Plus every time you participate in one of these memes, a cat gets a keyboard. So tweet away, everybody!
